The William M. King, S.J., papers, 1948-1960.

The William M. King, S.J., papers are a collection of notes taken by Fr. King while he was a seminarian. The first part consists of notes made at Woodstock College, Woodstock, Md., during a course on the Triniity taught by John Courtney Murray, S.J., in the fall of 1959. This was the first course taught by Fr. Murray after being silenced in 1954 by his Jesuit superiors in Rome for his controversial writings on church-state relations. Also included are notes taken by King for a scholarly paper on the relationship between church and state presented by Murray in 1958 at a conference of theologians. The second part of the collection is comprised of retreat notes wriiten by Fr. King while performing the 'Spiritual exercises' under the direction of the Rev. John McEvoy, S.J., at the Novitiate of Isaac Jogues in Wernersville, Pa., during the fall of 1948.
